Speaking, Arguing, & Writing Program

As part of the Weissman Center for Leadership and the Liberal Arts, the Speaking, Arguing, and Writing (SAW) Program is dedicated to empowering leaders who think critically and creatively and who write and speak persuasively. The SAW Program works with students, faculty, and staff across the Mount Holyoke College community to provide opportunities for collaborative learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

With a staff of approximately 60 students who have been hired and educated in peer mentoring, the SAW Program offers writing and speaking “mentors” in writing-intensive and speaking-intensive courses across the disciplines; writing and speaking “assistants” for one-on-one sessions with students in the SAW Center; writing and speaking workshops for students; pedagogy workshops for faculty; assistance with speaking, writing, and leadership-related activities across campus (including Take the Lead, Legacies of Leadership: A Student Conference, and Senior Symposium); and scholarship through participation in regional and national conferences on writing center studies and peer tutoring.
